Doctors and research scientists depend upon grassroots organizations like the Cure 4 Diabetes Foundation to help fund and bring awareness to their work. The Foundation is focusing on areas that we feel are closest to a cure. Without the funding, scientists can only dream of a cure. Every idea may not be the answer, but without your donations, that one "dream" that is the answer may be missed. Research enables the scientists to discover what will work and what may be the cure for this disease which affects so many millions of lives. Your donations are needed today. The Cure 4 Diabetes Foundation has funded research by Dr. Denise Faustman, Director of the Immunobiology Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her work is progressing in BCG Therapy, which has resulted in a complete cure of Type 1 end-stage diabetic mice. Her team is preparing for human trials in January 2008. The Foundation has been a long-time supporter of the Edmonton Protocol, developed by Dr. James Shapiro, Director of the Clinical Islet Transplant Program at the University of Alberta. His research is the basis for islet cell transplants around the globe. Dr. Shapiro is working on eliminating the need for immunosuppressant drugs and their side effects. We are investigating other research areas which show promise for a cure in the near future. We believe there will be a cure in our lifetime.
