Dr. Denise Faustman
Dr. Denise Faustman, Director of the Immunobiology Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, is doing exciting research in BCG Therapy which has resulted in a complete cure in Type 1 end-stage diabetic mice, requiring no anti-rejection drugs. Her research team is preparing for human trials in January, 2008.
Dr. James Shapiro
The Edmonton Protocol was developed by Dr. James Shapiro, Director of the Clinical Islet Transplant Program, at the University of Alberta. His research is the basis for islet cell transplants around the globe. Dr. Shapiro is working on eliminating the need for immunosuppressant drugs which can produce side effects.
